Jean Mach, Professor of English at College of San Mateo has a long history of national leadership in the areas of integrative learning, learning communities, curriculum reform including writing across the curriculum and quantitative reasoning across the curriculum, using rubrics for assessment, mentoring, interdisciplinary assignments, community college issues, and faculty collaboration.
The only faculty who was on more than two VALUE Rubric development teams, Jean has sought-after wisdom in a variety of disciplinary areas, often derived from hands-on experiences in infusing innovative integrative learning opportunities into all her courses. She has taught in California’s San Mateo Community College District for decades and has seen how previously struggling students can thrive in invigorating learning environments. In addition to her campus contributions, Jean has served as a faculty member at AAC&U Institutes, an advisor to AAC&U’s Roadmap Project, and as a reviewing editor for both College Teaching and IJeP: The International Journal of ePortfolio. Although currently developing a national Civic Learning rubric, Jean is also enjoying a sabbatical.
