Julia Metzker is the Director of ENGAGE, Georgia College’s Quality Enhancement Plan, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry. After teaching chemistry at Georgia College for 10 years, Julia Metzker was selected through a national search. A strong proponent of community engagement, she has been an active faculty member who has served in a number of capacities including University Senate, curriculum committees at the university and college level in addition to chairing the Core Curriculum Revision Committee in 2010. Julia is keenly interested in studying the impact of engagement pedagogies in higher education settings.
Examples of her work incorporating community engagement into the student experience include a course entitled “The Science and Sociology of your Food” in which students completed a community food assessment and local food guide and an ongoing research project to assess the health and quality of soils in communities. As director of ENGAGE, Dr. Metzker strives to bring community partners together with GC staff and faculty to design engaging learning experiences that bring benefit to the community.
